Snæfellsnes peninsula is one of our most visited gems in Iceland and known for its magnificent nature and dramatic landscape. The geology of Snæfellsnes is versatile and its formations show history from almost all periods of Iceland’s geology. It was Snæfellsnes glacier that inspired the famous “Journey to the center of the earth” by Jules Verne.
A day tour to a truly wonderful place where you will gaze upon high and rugged mountain ranges formed by glacial and volcanic eruptions. With natural springs, vibrant coastal culture, small fishing villages, farms and wonderful bird life. You could say its Iceland in a nutshell, which explains the popularity of the area.
We recommend an early departure from Reykjavik so that we can enjoy a full day of nature, history and mystery. From Reykjavík we drive under the tunnel of Hvalfjörður, through Borgarnes entering the beautiful road of Snæfellsnes to the west.
You will enjoy a visit to several small fishing towns such as Grundafjörður, Arnarstapi and Hellnar, where I will have plenty of stories for you.
We will drive by the picturesque mountain of Kirkjufell, made famous in Game of Thrones and Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
You will visit the beautiful black sand beach of Djúpalónssandur and travel through the national park of Snæfellsnes with its amazing glacier throning over it.
Some people believe Snæfellsjökull is one of the 7 most powerful places on earth, you will have to visit and see for yourself!
We will of course stop on the way for a lunch break.
