You will be picked up from your hotel in Reykjavik for a half day of fun in Reykjavik city.
We will take you around the capital city to visit some of the most talked about landmarks and what I believe are significant places you would be amazed to see.
Reykjavik grew very quickly in the 20th century, starting with Copenhagen as Iceland’s capital and midway through the century we gained our independence making Reykjavik our capital. Just think in the early 1900´s there were only 500 people living in Reykjavik but in a 100 years it grew up to 200.000 residents. The fast population growth and house building in the city created unorganised areas with various building styles and colours making it a unique characteristic of our city.
On the tour we will go around the city center and harbor area where you will find boutiques, restaurants and small shops. In the harbour area we will stop by to visit Harpa Concert Hall, our spectacularly designed home of the Icelandic symphony and opera.
Hallgrímskirkja is a must see and we will make a stop there. A beautifully designed and famous 74,5 meter high church in the center of Reykjavik, was built in the years from 1945-1986. It can be seen from almost all aspects of the city and inside the church you will find the largest instrument in Iceland, a grand organ with over 5000 pipes.
We will make our way past Höfði, where Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan had their famous meeting in 1986.
A stop by Nauthólsvík beach, where the healthy (crazy) Icelandic swim in the Atlantic ocean all year around. From there we then make our way to Perlan in Öskjuhlíð, troning on one of Reykjavik´s hills and built on 7 water tanks, six still filled with water and one emptied for exhibitions. You can enjoy a panoramic view over the city from Perlan´s observation deck.
